Ph.D. National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, University of Southampton, UK, 2002-2007. NERC funded. Advisors: Dr. Jonathan Sharples and Prof. P Holligan. Thesis: Nutrient fluxes into the seasonal thermocline of the Celtic Sea.

M.Sc. Physical Oceanography, University of Wales, Bangor, UK, 2001-2002. NERC funded. Advisor: Prof John Simpson. Dissertation: Biophysical interations between phytoplankton, mussel beds and flow in the Menai Strait.

B.Sc.(Hons) Marine Biology, University of Stirling, 1997-2001. (1999-2000 spend on exchange at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.) Advisor: Dr Steven George. Dissertation: Validation of metallothionein measurements in bivalvue mussels.

Jan 2008– Current: Research Associate (Postdoc), College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, Oregon State University, Corvallis. NOAA MERHAB and Center for Sponsored Coastal Ocean Research funded project "Integrated HAB monitoring and event response for coastal Oregon".

April 2007– Jan 2008: Research Associate (Postdoc), College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, Oregon State University, Corvallis. NOAA Oceans and Human Health Initiative funded project "Optical tagging and tracking of water masses for prediction of human health hazards".

2007 and 2008. PI on one through three day cruises for Harmful Algal Bloom work aboard the RV Elakha.

July-August 2005. Three weeks in the Celtic Sea aboard the RRS Charles Darwin.

July-August 2003. Three weeks in the Celtic Sea aboard the RRS James Clark Ross.

April 2002. Three days in the Menai Strait aboard the RV Prince Madog.

Many 1-3 day cruises and field courses, in Loch Creran, the Menai Straits, the Solent and Plymouth Sound.

Taught lectures, seminars and labs. Assisted in lecturing a level 4 "Introduction to Biological Oceanography" at Oregon State University.

Demonstrated (T.A.) to a variety of students, both undergraduate and masters level, on biological and physical oceanographic sampling methods and analysis.

 

Outreach:

2008. Organized a visit of 30 grade 5 Albany school children to the lab.

2004. Participated in the Researchers in Residence scheme, Perth Academy.
